New Medical Facility

Design Program:

Byce & Associates, Inc. provided Architectural, Interior Design, and Structural Engineering Services for the Dermatology Associates of West Michigan/Skin Renewal Centre in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Byce Team collaborated with design/build mechanical and electrical contractors to insure full system integration and a coordinated design solution for the 48,400 square foot facility. The two-story, plus basement facility provides 44,000 square feet of finished space for the Skin Renewal Centre, six Clinical Exam and Treatment Suites, two Mohs Treatment and Surgical Suites, General Laboratory, Centralized Sterilization, and Administration Offices.

4,000 square feet of unfinished space has been made ready for an additional Clinical Exam and Treatment Suite for future growth of the practice. The facility is designed as a single use tenant with a cross-building central lobby, connecting core building services with feature entry points on each long side of the building. This will allow for the transition to a multi-tenant building if future development necessitates.

The structural system is comprised of 14′-0″ tall poured-in-place concrete basement walls, architecturally finished precast insulated wall panels at the stair and elevator towers, and conventional steel framing with concrete floors and metal stud exterior wall framing. The exterior of the building features an expansive entry canopy to provide weather protection at the patient drop-off/pick-up, and a landscaped area well to provide natural light to the basement level offices. The building is clad with multi-textured, multi-colored metal panels and large areas of storefront glazing to harvest daylight deep into the interior spaces.
