Design Program:
Byce & Associates, Inc. sub-contracted with TMP Architects for the new 72,550 square foot 12th Street Elementary School in Portage, Michigan. The new school replaces the old outdated school with an efficient, two-story school. The new school was designed compact which allowed for less maintenance requirements from district personnel.
The school district requested a sustainable design with ‘green’ construction elements. Byce & Associates, Inc. designed a geothermal loop and heat pumps to provide energy efficient heating and cooling system for the building. Additional project perimeters included commissioning of building systems, recycling of construction materials and the use of renewable (i.e. low VOC interior finishes) and recyclable construction / finish systems in plans for the new school.
