Kalamazoo County Parks, Markin Glen Park

Park
New County Park

Design Program:  This project included a new campground facility with utility hookup at each site, new roadways, restrooms facilities and multiple other campground park amenities. Byce & Associates, Inc. scope of services for this project included electrical engineering and civil engineering for stormwater management, sanitary sewer and water distribution to each and every campground site.

The 75 acre Markin Glen Park amenities include a swimming lake, beach, restroom facilities, tennis courts, soccer field, boardwalks, walking paths, showers, along with a number of various other features.  The campground consists of 40 individual campground sites each with its own water, electric and sewer hook ups.  The campground area also has paved drives and concrete vehicle pads at each site.  As part of the campground development a centralized sewage dump station and potable water station were implemented.

Storm water management for the site consisted of quality and quantity storm water control basins with a system of underground storm collection pipes.  The storm water basins outlet and overflow to the swimming lake which eventually ties into the Kalamazoo River waterway. A boardwalk with an adjoining bridge was constructed over the waterway to the island.
